קורות חיים מייקל מטל ניו יורק- Michael Maytal - U.S
Artists Bio - Michael Maytal was born in Transylvania during the cold war.
A child of two Hungarian Holocaust survivors, his time in Romania was not long as the family found it necessary to emigrate to Israel given the communist regime.
While his path to being an artist was not obvious or conventional - naval academy at 13; officer in the Israeli navy; participant in the Yom Kippur war and finally a member of the Israeli Secret Service - the impulse was always there. His creative spirit began to flower through his chosen career (to > > support his family) - when he moved to America. Then and now Mr. Maytal is the creative force behind a very successful business that restores antiques - specializing in Art Deco period - which has informed some of his artistic sensibilities. He works closely with top New York designers and has been responsible for the restoration of pieces shown at Sotheby's, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and St. Patrick's > > Cathedral. While his chosen medium is photography, Mr. Maytal's passion for art began as a collector of paintings, some of which have recently been shown at the National Gallery of Budapest. He has integrated a love of Balthus, Magritte, and contemporary painter Knox Martin, into his aesthetic. Composition is what he believes drives great art, and thus it is ever apparent in his photographs. Mr. Maytal's photographs share his spontaneous take on life and his desire to capture the nuances, the beauty, the usually unseen, the edgy and the pulse of people and objects, using the restoration work space to stage and photograph his > > fantasies about relationship reflections. His first exhibition was held at an historic Arab olive mill which was > > converted into a gallery by the Israeli artist community, Ein Hod. The success of that show was followed by others in Israel as well as in the US.
